Welcome to my blog. Here you will find things such as short stories I write, bits of novels, thoughts on Scripture that I'm reading, possibly talks that I have done (in text form) and sometimes a random thought that pops into my head.

The contents of some posts will be about my reading and will have bits of the little bit of life experience I have. Things such as "I saw a tree, it was an oak tree, I know because my life experience of primary school told me!"
Also there is a post on here about milk. Read that one, it's enjoyable!!
Some things you see here were written by a version of me I no longer agree with. I considered deleting these. I probably should. But I want to leave them here in order to show and indicate how someone can grow, learn, and have different opinions than they once held as they learn more about the world and themselves.

Life Scouts

Tonight, at ridiculous o'clock as per my usual, I discovered a website called LifeScouts. They have badges for doing things... I thought it would be interesting to see what I have done from their list of 100 things and share it. Here goes...

I thought I would start with an obvious one.

Win Crane Machine Games.

I am exceptionally good at this. Since Christmas I have won:
- 1 Donald Duck
- 2 Little gold fish.
- 3 Muppets
- Minnie, Mickey and Pluto
- 2 PG Tips mascots.
                                               - 8 Furbys
                                               - 1 Christmas Bear.
                                               - 1 Weird cat thing.
                                               - 3 Despicable Me Minions.

Balloon Creation Maker

Here's one of those random things you don't know about me. I actually have a certificate in creating balloon animals. Yeah... Surprised? I also have one in face painting.

Be in a Parade.

I have been in a St. Patrick's Day Parade before. Only one, I don't remember the year, but it was CEF and the theme was "Dreams for the Limerick of the Future." #GodSaveIrelandOnceAgain.

Cook for a BBQ.

Who hasn't?

Go on a picnic.

Again, who hasn't?

Win an archery competition.

Archery is the only sport I enjoy. I have won two competitions in it.

Bake Cookies.

I did Home Ec. in school.

Milk a Cow.

I have not done this by hand but I think the machine thing counts.

Ride in a Cart pulled by a Horse.

Killarney, enough said.

Own a Pet.

I have had three goldfish and half a cat in my life. I don't remember the fish names. 2 were Power and Kid. The cat was called SnowB and was half my brother's.

Ride a Roller Coaster.

I like rollercoasters. Disney have some great ones. The Wild Mouse in Funderland is always fun too.

See Big Ben.

Before this March I had never been to London, but have been twice since then. I achieved the heck out of this badge. I also have a Lego model of it from Legoland now as well.

Win a Chess Tournament.

I was good at chess once, who knew?

Swim with a Dolphin.

I love dolphins... I can't swim but that's okay because they do all the work. #Florida.

Beat someone in a Fencing Match.

When I first came to UCC I did this until the club wanted money for equipment. I couldn't afford that, but I am pretty awesome with a sword, or well, I was.

Perform on a Stage.

I have been in two musicals. Won three singing competitions and one dancing one. Also have been in a couple of plays.

Gosh, I wanna be in a movie now!

Go Horse Riding.

Horsies!

Win a Karaoke Competition.

If I have won proper singing ones it follows that I have won karaoke.

Learn to play the Keyboard.

The only instrument I can play with some amount of ability...

Do a Magic Show.

My little brother used to be astounded by my magical abilities.

Bim, Bam, Boosil were my magic words.

The website was vague about what this badge means.
These are the options which it could apply for me.

Take a photograph- Who hasn't?
Join a Photography Club- There was one in Villiers.
Develop your own photos- Which is where I did this.
Upload a picture with Instagram- You can follow me, don't ask how. Look up 'Wavey1111' on it.
Have a photo you took published in a magazine- I took a picture from near the top of Croagh Patrick, which was in a magazine.
Have a photo you took on TV- I took a picture of light through clouds                                                                                                       over Rossnowlagh in Donegal,
which appeared on TV3s weather once.

Win a Ping-Pong Match.

Apart from Badminton this was the only 'sport' I would do in PE in school. I hate sport.

Plant a Tree.

There is a tree in Villiers, a copper beach tree, which I planted when I was a second year. I hope it's still there.

Go on safari.

This probably doesn't count but I am counting it. I have never been to Africa, but I did do the Disney Safari Tour in Disney's Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort, Florida.

Win at Scrabble.

I will probably never beat Mags or Mrs. T. as long as I live, but I have won the odd game of this!

Hold a snake.

Did this at a zoo in 1997. It was scary. I don't like snakes. Also did it at a circus for the amusement of a friend.

Go to a gig.

I have been to 2 Ash gigs with back stage passes, and one other gig with some band that were rubbish.

Win a trophy.

I have won three trophies in my lifetime. One was for a Bonnie Baby competition in Mosney in Dublin. The second was for a singing competition, but I lost it on the same day. I think I still have the medal I got as well though. The third was for a business and enterprise idea I and a classmate had. It came second in the Limerick Board of Enterprise schools competition, 2006. It came first from the Villiers category.

Win a Singing Competition.

Done and done.

Watch the sunrise.

I am an asthmatic. This means I take inhalers. These often have the effect of messing with my sleeping patterns, thus how I am typing this at 5:11am and not being tired. I used to, as a teenager, every summer, never sleep. I got about one hour to three hours a day. At the time I was very sensitive to the light of the Sun in the morning. Therefore I saw the sunrise most days for three months of the year for three years. It's not as pretty as a sunset!

Go to the Zoo.

I have been to many zoos. 1 in England, 1 in Florida, 1 in Dublin and 1 in Cork.

If you are still reading at this point I thank you for adventuring on this journey with me.
Here are some badges I would like to get in the future.

I can't ride a bike yet.

See a drive in movie.

I can't drive yet either.

I would love to learn the harp.

I have never flown a kite.... I know, sad right.

Write a song.

Make a music video

Visit Niagra Falls. I also wanna see Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

This is make a Vlog

100 Questions 51-75

Part 3 of my 100 Questions Challenge:

51. How many times have you moved house?
I have lived in 7 houses in my life. 1 in Limerick (aged 8-16), 2 in Clare (0-8 and 16-20) and 4 in Cork (one in first and second year of college, one in final year and the dip year, one until Christmas of last year (from Sept. of last year) and now 87.

52. What is on the floor of the room you are currently in, not including furniture?
So, like, what mess?
-a graphic novel.
-Laptop, phone, iPad, lamp, keyboard wires.
-2 books I don't want.
-My shoes.
-2 Magazines.
-A bottle of Coke.
-Doorstops.
-One of my ESV Bibles.

53. How many devices do you own which can access the internet.
3. iPhone, iPad and Mac. Yeah, I'm an Apple head.

54. Is there anything that is always guaranteed to make you happy?
Wow, I dunno... Hearing people talking about what God means to them and what they know He wants them to do with their lives. I love that.
Also, Coca-Cola is great for making me calm down, a good cup of Barry's has to be up there too.

55. Is there anything that always makes you sad?
There are a lot of things that always make me sad, definitely. When a person kicks a small animal, with intent to harm them, when a person scoffs at Jesus and insults Him, when a person is sad, that normally makes me sad too.

56. What programs do you currently have open on your computer?
Microsoft Word and Google Chrome (note the lack of Apple products open, this blog is a Google product, linked to my gmail.)

57. What do you associate the colour red with?
England, Roses, blood, war, King David (apparently the line of his family wore red and blue).

58. Last strong smell you can remember smelling?
Andy cooked dinner yesterday (Saturday 28-09) and put lots of garlic in. I was ill at the time and woke up at about 9:30pm to the strong smell of garlic in the house.

59. Last healthy thing you ate?
I had some mash on Friday (it's now Sunday, I have been ill for two days)

60. Do you drink tea or coffee?
Barry's all the way :) I drink less of it since moving to 87 than I did anywhere else. So I'm down to a few cups a week.
When I was teaching in Deerpark CBS I would have a cup when I got up (1) and then another when I arrived in the school (2). Later on I would have one before the break (3) and before I left the school (4). Then I would have one at home, or out, sometime before dinner (5) and after dinner (6) and if it was a Tuesday I would have one after CU (7) and one before bed. (7 or 8)

61. What do you associate the colour blue with?
The song by Eiffel 65. The sky and the sea. Also, apparently King David's line wore blue!

62. How long is the closest ruler you can find?
Broken 6 inches, now about 4.13 ha.

63. What colour pants are you wearing today?
Dark blue jeans.

64. When was the last time you drank water?
A few hours ago. My favourite is Deep River Rock. Not mad about tap water.

65. How often do you clear your browser history?
I don't think I've done that since I got this Mac, which was in November... so, not often to never.

66. Do you believe nude photos can be artistic and not erotic?
There is a lot of nude art, like Michelangelo's David and various other Vatican and religious paintings. There is also a guy who gathers loads of naked people in a place, has them stand in a certain way, and takes the shot and some of those look cool, you see a mass of people, not nudity. So, yes I think there can be art in nudity and naked pictures, it depends on the eye of the beholder I guess.

This is the kind of thing I mean.

67. Ever written fanfiction on anything?
Nope, I have never been a fanfiction kinda guy. I once thought about writing a novel surrounding 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', called 'Two' I think. I had the outline of the story and may have put pen to paper once and hand written a page or two, but I never bothered with it really.

68. Last formal event you attended?
I haven't the foggiest. I was hoping to say the IBI Graduation, which was Saturday, but I was sick for that. Therefore it must have been either a confirmation, communion or wedding of one of my cousins.

69. If you had to move your birthday to another date, what date would you chose and why?
Sometime in May. I love May!!

70. Would you prefer to be near the beach or in the countryside?
I don't know if you know me very well, but if you know me enough to have had the pleasure of my company at a beach you will know that I hate beaches. I hate beaches because I do not like sand.
In the words of Anakin Skywalker, an expert in having to live with sand, "It's rough, it's coarse and it gets everywhere!"

Having said all of that I would much prefer to live near the sea than in the countryside. I really love listening to waves hitting piers and rocks, and often like standing at these locations and allowing the spray of the waves to go over my head and fall on me. Being near the sea/ocean is one of my favourite places to be. So I would prefer to live near a beach than in the countryside.

71. Roughly how many people live in your town?
According to Wikipedia there are 119,230 people living in Cork (according to the 2011 census.)]
Meelick, the village my parents live in, has a population of 536 apparently... But Stone Park (the part of Meelick that is old) only has a population of 148- my family is in that part.

72. Do you know anyone with the same birthday as you?
Leonardo diCaprio was born on the 11th of November but in 1974. An old neighbour of mine was also born on the 11th of November.
Demi Moore was also born on the 11/11.

73. Favourite place to shop?
Really? Internet user I am a man. I shop in Tesco and Penneys and the like, I do have favourites I just do.

74. Do you have a smartphone?
Sometimes, though sometimes it isn't very intelligent at all.
In the past year I have owned three different iPhones. Going back to last October I owned an iPhone 3GS (which a friend now has) then I got an iPhone 4s in cNovember (which a different friend now has) then in cApril I won an iPhone 5 (which I now still have.)

I think I should get an iPhone 5s so that I will have owned 4 iPhones in a year! Though 3 is like the Trinity.

75. What is your least favourite colour and why?
Pink, because it is overused and I am a man.

100 Questions 26-50

Part 2 of my 100 questions challenge. Here we go again :)

26. Are you friends with any of your exes?
Basically, no.

27. Name a book you loved as a child?
I used to love reading the Mr. Men series. I also liked Narnia. As a kid I wasn't as much of a reader as I am now though.

28. What's your native language?
Gaeilge, though I cannot speak it as much as I wish I could. English is my, unfortunate, first language.

29. Which email service do you use?
I used to have the email address davidcowpar@all4god.co.uk, I really liked that one but the server disappeared. I also had a hotmail and a live.ie which I can no longer access. Now it's gmail all the way.

30. Is there anything hanging on the walls of your bedroom?
One day I was having a bad day and so I put up loads of Bible verse posters. I have a funky John 3:16 one and a "Be still" one and a few others. I also have a massive Cork flag and a Man of Steel logo in the sky poster. Oh and the Ten ODD Years timeline is on the back of my door.

31. What's your favourite number and why?
11. Easiest question ever. I was born on the 11th of November, that's 11/11. I once won 50Euro in kiddies bingo at the call of 11 and, ya, 11 is a running theme.

32. The earliest moment in your life you can remember?
Gosh, I don't actually know! I don't know if I remember things or remember people telling me things. I know that when I was two I used to be asked to say words from the dictionary by my aunt because she was convinced I wouldn't be able to do it, but I did and surprised her. I don't know if I remember that or not though.
I do remember being about eight and going to a place in Wexford and walking out with my best friend and saying that my brother would have loved it at the exact same time as he did

33. What did you have for dinner yesterday?
Chicken wraps by Old El Paso, specifically the ones below. They were really good, the best dinner I have had in a while. My tastebuds enjoyed it immensely.

34. How often do you brush your teeth?
At least twice a day and sometimes three times.

35. What's your favourite candy/chocolate?
I shall give thee both. I love the Natural Confectionary Company's Sour Squirms, specifically the yellow and pink one. That's my favourite sweet in the world. Chocolate is Cadbury's Marvellous Creations, Jelly Popping Candy Shells.

36. Do you currently have any other blog or vlog sites?
I have another blog with some of my writing on it, which I intend to put more writing on, it's at www.justwavey.blogspot.ie. I have a YouTube channel as well. I have nothing on it, yet... There are plans though.

37. If you were suddenly very hungry what would you eat?
Probably cereal... I like Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Nesquick, the old Corn (Honey) Pops and Lucky Charms.
                                                         They're Magically Delicious!

38. What fandoms would you consider yourself a part of?
I am assuming in the answer to this question that the word Fandom is about the things that I would consider myself a big fan of.
-Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
-Joss Whedon.
-Sarah Michelle Gellar.
-Star Wars.
-Marvel.
-Superman, maybe...

39. If you could study anything what would it be?
A Masters of Divinity in Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA.

40. Do you use anything on your lips? (Lipstick, chapstick etc).
Normally no, but if they are very chapped then yeah, I wanna make that better...

41. How would you describe your sense of humour?
I laugh at everything, funny things, people's pain, comedians, stupid jokes... I don't know what my own sense of humour is... Situation comedy maybe? I hate puns and smutty jokes.

42. What annoys your more than anything else?
Honestly, the thing I find the most annoying is people who have over-thought God. Systematic Theology that has gone so far that the person is convinced they can explain everything about God. Someone who says they know and know because of theory X. These people, who think they capacity for reason is greater than God's infinite nature, annoy me. (Generally only when they preach it at you.)

43. What kind of position are you in at the moment?
I'm not fully sure what this question means...

I am sitting down, on a chair by my kitchen table.
I am unemployed.
I am a student of Applied Theology.
I work with local Corkonian, and diaspora Corkonian Christians.

44. Do you wear much jewellery?
I have a ring on the ring finger of my left hand (see http://waveysthoughts.blogspot.ie/2012/11/my-ring.html for more on that). I have a Celtic Cross on a black rope around my neck (I also own three silver crosses, and one that's made of diamonds) I also have two Christian wristbands and a watch.

Not exactly the same but these are pretty close!

45. Do you prefer to text or call?
I hate making phone calls. I'm not fully sure why. I much prefer texting. I can think about them longer and not seem so... me... in my responses. I also can look at a text when I feel like it, not when you feel like it. (Normally I answer a text within five minutes) but a phone call forces me to stop whatever it is I'm doing and talk to you. With texting I can talk to you for 5 hours, and still study, write, read, watch a movie, whatever it is I'm doing.

46. Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes I do. I do not, however, believe that they are the spirits of the dearly departed trapped between here and the next life. I believe that they are familiar spirits, demons that attach themselves to people and take on some of their characteristics, thus they can seem like the person you once knew but they are not. I think that people who talk to the dead actually talk to these demons and they are hell-bent, excuse the pun, at keeping people from Heaven so will give misleading information about life after death and about living too.
I also strongly believe I saw a ghost. It was in Spain in 2001. There was this burnt out house near our hotel and it had a skull in it. Later on in the holiday this moving, spectral form came towards the hotel, I was standing outside it, from the direction of the burnt out house.

47. What do you carry your money in?
A bank! I keep my bank card in a black leather wallet, which has to have a compartment for coins. I really dislike when wallets have places for cards and cash but no room for coinage.

48. Do you enjoy driving?
I am ashamed to admit I cannot drive... I know, pathetic right? I am almost 24 years of age and I can't drive yet... I took Religion instead of Driver's Ed. in school... seriously!

If I could have a dream car it would be this though:

Ain't she so pretty? It would be that colour as well. In case you were wondering this is a Mercedes Benz, SLR McLaren which was produced in the UK between the years 2003-2010. Bet you didn't know I knew stuff about cars!

49. What is the longest drive you have ever been on?
Eugh, the trip from Cork to London via bus.
We left Cork Bus Station at 4pm and arrived in London at 8am the next day. Then returning we left London at 7pm and arrived in Cork at 10:30am... It was a horribly tiring journey; but a good trip and an excellent time in Londonia.
See http://waveysthoughts.blogspot.ie/2013/08/totd-uk-port-customs.html for how I felt as if I was treated like a member of the IRA by Her Majesty's Customs (see gave me chocolates and a Gold Coin once I visited Buckingham Palace after arriving in London though, so that kind of made up for it.)

50. Furthest away from home you have ever been?
Hold on and I'll check Google Maps and answer this with a picture of the place.
It is as I thought, at almost 4000 miles it's:

Okay, so that's part 2 of my 100 question challenge. Tune in next time for part 3.

Also, I haven't forgotten about the TotD blogs on the Church and Evangelism I promised... They are coming, I just have some things that are taking priority right now.

THIS IS THE MAIN ONE!

Soon one will be able to purchase this and the old book by June project. Exciting times.

God Bless friends,
